It was a night that the cast of CID will cherish for a long time. Celebrated singer Lata Mangeshkar threw a dinner party in their honour on Sunday (November 24) evening. The octogenarian, along with her extended family — sisters Usha and Meena, and brother Hridyanath — celebrated the success of the popular detective show.

Shivaji Satam, who plays ACP Pradyuman on the show, and Mangeshkar were chatting in Marathi. The latter told him that she watches the re-runs of the show as well. “On weekends, they air the show non-stop all day, so today (Sunday) I didn’t take my bath till after 3.30 pm as I didn’t want to miss it. I try to watch all the episodes. I’ve been watching it for 16 years.”

As a gracious host, the veteran singer laughed and joked with the cast — even asking after everyone’s eating preference — ensuring they were having a good time. She even enquired about some of the cast members who couldn’t attend the dinner.

Later, she presented gifts to every member of the CID team and gave a short speech praising them. In a candid moment, she even cajoled Satam and Dayanand Shetty to sing. Though initially hesitant, they obliged and sang three songs. “It is tough for me to sing in general, and to sing in front of Lataji is even tougher,” said Satam.

Ronit Roy attended the dinner with his wife Neelam, and was seen engaged in a long chat with Mangeshkar. When he was about to leave without eating, she chided him saying, “I don’t believe that you have already had your dinner.” Music composers Anu Malik and Jatin Pandit, too, made an appearance.
