After Ajay Devgn, Irfan Khan, known to shy away from award shows, will make his debut as an award show anchor this month. The actor will be hosting the Big Star Entertainment Awards alongside comic-star Shreyas Talpade. Irfan, not known to be a rambler even during interviews, says, “I’m still waiting for their script. Once I have it, I’ll start preparing for my stint. I’ve never attempted something like this but I’m not scared to be on stage. I have some stage experience that should come in handy.”
The actor is even ready to crack some one-liners if co-host Shreyas supports him. “I’ll have to look up to him. He will be my support
on stage. I’ve seen him anchor award functions on TV and I think he’s brilliant. He pulls off funny acts really well. So, I’d like to believe that with him around, it will be easy to pull of a couple of ha-ha segments through the four-hour show,” says Irfan.
When asked why he doesn’t appear on award shows too often to pick his awards or present awards to his colleagues, he says, “I do make a couple of exceptions but those are real exceptions. I like to watch my fellow actors lift trophies for their hard work. But I’m not one of those dancing and singing type of actors who’ll show up at every award function. For me, this award show is an exception.”
Unlike a film shoot, which involved retakes, award shows often require anchors to improvise on stage. Is he ready to handle the pressure as the anchor? “I’ll handle it,” says Irfan, sounding confident. “If I can’t, I’ll ask Shreyas to help. I’m sure he’ll save the day.”
Apart from Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra, singer Dhanush of Kolaveri Di fame, will also perform at the award show this month.
