‘I would never elope’

Television actress Vaani Sharma talks to Gautam Hegde on Jeevan Saathi and much more...

tv Updated: Dec 30, 2008 17:06 IST

You recently got married against your wishes in Jeevan Saathi.. after an attempt to elope. Is eloping exciting? Exciting yes, but when it comes to real life, I would never elope. I’m quite conventional and conservative.

Okay, let’s just imagine.. how would you plan to elope, anyway?
Hmm, I’d first figure out how the wedding would be.

How would you escape from home?
I wouldn’t be able to knot up bed sheets because I stay on the ninth floor and I’d need too many of them.. it would take me all night to climb down. Your co-star Gaurav Khanna recently got shot at in the show. Yeah man, and that too on his birthday. Quite ironical no?

Do you miss him?
Big time. We’ve become really good friends. He is just like his character, up to mischief all the time.

Is Vikram Gokhale as cold as he is portrayed in the show?
I was nervous initially too, but he is really sweet. And believe it or not, he’s a prankster on the sets.

On a scale of one to 10, how close is your show to Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam?
Pleeeeease! It’s not at all like the second half of the film. Initially, people would draw parallels because the scale, grandeur and Vikramji were common factors. But not any more.

You’re not too many shows old.. yet you come across as extremely confident.
That’s because I am from this city and have a family that takes care of me.

What is the latest bit of gossip or rumour that you have heard?
That there are 30 shows which will get axed because of recession.

Do relatives call you up to know what will happen next in the soap?
All the time. The maids stop me on my way out and ask me, “Aagey kya hoga?”

Are you recognised without make up?
No, I look very different. That’s scary.

What’s the point of fame when you’re not recognised in public?
(Laughs) That’s good in a way. I look ‘differently’ pretty.

What do you watch on TV?
Can I be honest? I watch my show.

Do you find any other actresses impressive?
No one can equal me! Ha ha ha ha!

Modesty can take a walk, huh?
Yeah totally! But I like Shweta Tiwari in Jane Kya Baat Hui. What expressive eyes.

How was life five years ago?
I was doing my M Com in management.

Today, if Farhan Akhtar cast you in his next film on the condition that you quit TV, would you?
I’d finish my TV commitment and see if Farhan is ready to wait till then.
