Picture this: A rich heroine (Mitika Sharma) was married to a poor boy (Sudeep Sahir). But they have drifted apart. We’re talking of the daily melodrama Santaan.
And now evil mum has planned the heroine’s wedding with an NRI guy against her wishes. The hero will land at the mandap yelling, “Yeh shaadi nahi ho sakti!” Seen that already?
The channel bosses at STAR thought so too. But the said drama was required because at the end of the day, we all have a filmy keeda in our DNA. So how did they make the scene different? Search search think think! Then, they happened to watch Sudeep Sahir’s drag act in Nach Baliye 4 that weekend. And hit upon an idea. Poor hero does land at the wedding.. but with a difference. He is dressed as one Pam Aunty from Canada with clutch, glares, lip gloss.. the works.
Guess who? “Nach.. was a cakewalk but this is painful,” sighs Sahir since he has been doing a Mrs Doubtfire for four days in a row for the Star Plus show. The unitwalas say Sahir is the prettiest woman on the set. His wife Anantika joked, “Kulta, tu mere pati ko kha gayi!”
Sahir’s real-life saas said had she known earlier she would have considered him as a bahu instead of a damaad. The actor makes a hattrick of sorts with this drag act — he had first switched genders for Ayushmaan.. then Nach Baliye 4 and now Santaan. The episodes air next week.
