With the season finale of Sony’s singing reality show, Indian Idol 6, around the corner, the battle is now among the top three contestants — Vipul Mehta, Devendra Singh and Amit Kumar. Though both Devendra and Vipul are considered favourites, sources say that Vipul is likely to ultimately emerge winner.
Time and again, Devendra has proved his versatility and impressed the audiences. An insider says, “Devendra has been a popular contestant throughout. Even Lata Mangeshkar commended him on his talent. He’s a favourite of the judges too.” However, in spite of Devendra’s popularity, there is a buzz going around that the chances of Vipul winning are higher. “As far as the audience vote goes, Vipul’s chances of winning are better. Devendra is a dark horse,” adds the source. Contestant Poorvi Koutish, who was ousted last week, recently stated in an interview that Vipul’s versatility will win him the coveted title.
Vipul’s singing even impressed actor Sonakshi Sinha when she visited the sets. She was mesmerised when Vipul sang AR Rahman’s version of ‘Vande Mataram’. Moved by his performance, she had
commented, “Aapne Rahman sir ki tarah hi gaya (You sang just like Rahman).”
This weekend, Bollywood’s popular pair Hema Malini and Dharmendra, will be the celebrity guests on the show. The contestants will sing songs from the ’90s.
