Kunal Kohli who was last seen in Nach Baliye 2 is back as judge on Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka, the musical-dance show for kids on Zee. He was offered Nach Baliye 3 but couldn’t take it on as he was busy with a movie.

Why is a film director judging reality shows? “It’s good pocket money,” says Kohli, adding, “See, actors get many brand endorsements..directors have to do well for themselves.”

How’s it sharing the dais with someone as controversial as Rakhi Sawant? “She’s quite entertaining. Annu (Kapoor) is the serious person on board.. I’m the one balancing the two of them,” laughs Kohli.

The director however, has no clue what he’s doing on the show. “But then I didn’t know what I was doing in Nach.. either. I learn on the job. Maybe I’m the glam quotient,” he jokes.

Stay sensitive
Kohli makes sure he’s sensitive while handling the contestants who are the little stars from television and film. He says they can’t expect their performances to be on par with the adults on other reality shows.

All the same, the Hum Tum director believes that such talent hunts are important for children as they get a lot of
exposure. “They ought to be treated with kid gloves, though. The comments might affect a kid three times more than they would an adult,” he explains.

Kohli is relieved that the bitching, back-slapping which is a regular feature on most reality formats isn’t a part of Chota Packet..

Would he ever make a show for television? Kohli shudders: “I’m a filmmaker.. I’m not equipped to make a TV show.”
