Best known for playing the lead in shows such as Bhabhi, Ek Ladki Anjaani Si and Maayka, Kanchi Kaul took a sabbatical from the small screen four years ago. But now she’s back with a brand new serial titled Meri Bhabhi (MB). Ask her what kept her away from telly shows and she says, “After my shows ended, I went on to do a few south films and commercials. Then I got married (in 2011) and went on a year-long honeymoon trip to various places around the world. I took a break from work because once we start shooting for any project, things get very hectic. It’s good to be away for a while.”

Not a typical

saas-bahu

show, MB takes a fresh look at another relationship. “It is an exciting story about the bond between a bhabhi and nanad (husband’s wife and sister), where I play the

nanad,

Shraddha. Usually, TV shows portray this relationship in a negative light but in MB, both of them are good friends and my

bhabhi

helps my character get through a rough patch,” says Kanchi about her comeback show that was earlier titled Sherdil Shergil. Although it underwent a lot of changes in terms of the story and the cast, Kanchi remains unperturbed by it. “In a TV serial, nothing is final until it goes on air. The changes were made by the channel and the production house in the best interest of the show.

Ask her about her marriage to actor-producer Shabbir Ahluwalia and she gushes. “Shabbir’s surpassed my expectations as a husband. He’s awesome. Post our wedding, we travelled to many places. We like to keep our personal lives as private as possible and make an effort to ensure that.”
