Krutika Desai discusses her Black role with a real journo Rachana Dubey...

Hey, when did you metamorphose into a scribe?
(Laughs) I’m still Krutika Desai. I just got under the skin of a journalist for Black. I’ve known Sunil (director Sunil Agnihotri) for years. I just do a role when he offers me one. A few weeks ago, he called and informed me that I had to report for a shoot in Diu on a particular date. And I was there. I shot the promo without even knowing what the show was about. I didn’t even know much about my character either. But Sunil was in the director’s seat and that was reason enough to do Black.

I hope you aren’t quite so clueless now?
(Laughs) No, I know I’m playing a journo who is compiling data on paranormal activities. She’s tracking down the cases that Mamik (Ranvir) and Aaliya’s (Aaliya) characters investigate. I’m a seasoned journalist.. so watch out.

Excuse me, but your clothes are far too glamorous for a journalist..
Just because I’m a paperwallahi I don’t have to be seen in cotton salwar kurtas with a jhola. I’d much rather wear trendy black pants and cool glasses. Journalists can look hip too. But I’d hate being loud and overdressed.. looking like a Christmas tree!

What happened to Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi? It ended rather abruptly.
Yeah, isn’t that sad? I shot for it in January and it was an enjoyable experience.

Will you be returning on Woh Rehnewaali Mahlon Ki now that Reena Kapoor is back?
No darling, they haven’t called me back. The creative team has changed the entire story. And the cast has been altered according to the new plot. Except for Reena Kapoor, no one else has come back to the show.

You won the Saas vs Bahu dancing contest. Was it a surprise?
It was, at least for me. I did a lot of dancing in Chandrakanta on Doordarshan because the role demanded it.. but after that, zilch. When I signed Saas vs Bahu, I was expecting to be out in the first or second round. But instead of getting voted out, I kept moving ahead. I won but nearly missed out on a holiday with my husband.
