“Just Mohabbat still has a recall value. Even today, people come up to me and talk to me about it,” says television actor Vatsal Sheth.

He did a cameo in Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (2015) and earned fame playing a negative character in the TV show, Ek Hasina Thi. But actor Vatsal Sheth, who is paired opposite Drishyam (2015) actor Ishita Dutta in an upcoming drama series, is still remembered for his role in the 1996 hit show, Just Mohabbat.

Vatsal says, “Just Mohabbat was a youth-centric show. It still has recall value. Even today, people come up to me and talk about it. The other day, Varun (Dhawan; actor) told me that he was a big fan of the show. People could relate to it.”

The actor feels that for youth-based shows to become as popular as daily soaps, the story has to “connect with the audience”. “You cannot provide random content. When viewers watch shows, they should relate to the story. There has to be a blend between reality and fiction,” he says.

Ask Vatsal if he shares a close equation with Salman and his family, and the actor says, “I am close to Salman, and Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan. They are always there for me. When I wasn’t sure of playing a negative character (in Ek Hasina Thi), Salman motivated me to take it on. He’s always there for me.”
