Last week, news reports claimed that actor Lara Dutta was expected to make her television debut with Xtreme Makeovers’s second desi remake on Imagine. And expectedly, her spokesperson said that the former Miss Universe is busy with other assignments, and isn’t considering anything at the moment. But sources close to the channel say that talks for finalising dates and per-episode remuneration are in progress.
Deepak Dhar, managing director, Endemol, admits that his production company is in talks with the channel for a show on makeovers, but insists that it is not a remake of ABC’s Xtreme Makeovers. “It’s a home-grown format. I don’t know why is it being touted as a remake. The makeovers are the only similarity,” he argues. “Besides that, it’s too early to divulge any details. But it will connect well with the audience because my show goes beyond makeovers.”
As for Dutta anchoring the show, Dhar refuses to comment, pointing out that it’s unfair to drop names before sealing the deal. “Even I have heard rumours that we are in talks with Lara Dutta! The point is that the show doesn’t need a big Bollywood name as the host. It has to be
someone who can mentor the girls sensitively. It could be Lara or someone else.”
Rumours claim that a hundred young women with various beauty-related problems will be short-listed out of which 14 will make it to the show that was initially supposed to go on floors this month, to go on air in June.
A couple of girls, after the exercise, are also expected to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra. “They will walk for a reputed fashion designer but we haven’t frozen on the name,” says Dhar. “In a week or two, we will be clear about the logistics.”
