The much talked-about jodi of Nach Baliye, Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh, share the secret that keeps their relationship alive despite all the rush.
How often do you meet each other? Does it become difficult at times since both of you are working in the perennially-pressed-for-time TV industry?
Aamir: There is no to-do list that I have to call her so many times or she has to call me. It is just like a normal relationship. We have been doing shows together, we go to parties together. In fact, ever since we became busier, we have been meeting each other more often.
Sanjeeda: It is not so difficult because fortunately we work for the same production house and thus we can adjust our timing. We work in the same studios, so we keep meeting between shots. Otherwise, we meet after pack-up.
What kind of a relationship would you say you share?
Aamir: We have a mix of everything in our relationship. We are like friends. We discuss professional matters and take each other’s advice, too, but we do not talk too much about [day to day] work. It is more of casual conversations and sweet little things. She is like a sweet little kid.
Sanjeeda: Our relationship cannot be described in just a few words... by saying that we are in a very good relationship. I really mean it when I say that I have never been in a better relationship (laughs). We have an intense, romantic, friendly relationship.
Do you have the time to make each other’s birthday special?
Aamir: I made Sanjeeda’s last birthday very special. It was not a surprise but I did arrange a party for her.
Sanjeeda: We kind of try and make it a surprise by taking each other out for a candle-light dinner.
Do you have expectations from each other — and are they met?
Aamir: I do expect a few things from people very close to me, though not from everyone. When you are in a relationship, obviously you start expecting [certain things] and so at times you are also disappointed. This happens in every relationship.
Sanjeeda: We are too mature to have any kind of expectations. I know the next step that we are going to take.
Every relationship has compromises. Are there any in yours?
Aamir: We have been very open and real with each other and because of that we did not have to make any compromises.
Sanjeeda: Every relationship has to have compromises for it to sustain itself. We have given each other a lot of space and time, and that’s what works for us.
Whom do you prefer to see your partner with onscreen?
Aamir: I don’t know. I think me (laughs). I would request Hrithik to do a show for me because Sanjeeda is such a good dancer, too. I would love to see her in a video with Hrithik.
Sanjeeda: No one. Aamir looks good only with me.
Any plans of settling down soon?
Aamir: Not soon, because we both have our careers to look after.
Sanjeeda: You will come to know when it happens but not so soon.
