R Madhavan, last seen as one of the 3 Idiots in Raju Hirani’s film, will now be hosting a show that’s being produced by Siddharth Basu for a TV channel. The show is called Big Money and offers a booty of one crore to the winner.

It’s based on an American format called Family Links, where a family of four competes to win assets like cars and home accessories. Nikhil Madhok of the channel, Imagine, admits that it’s indeed a desi remake. “The basic structure has been taken from that show but we have made our own modifications to it.” The show will be hosted by Madhavan and will go on air in July.

Why Madhavan as a host? Madhok reasons, “He’s a popular fresh face. People relate to him a lot after his 3 Idiots success. Many recall his characters from the TV shows he did. TV was a homecoming for him. It’s a family show, in that respect, he came across as an easy and chilled out guy. He didn’t have to be fine-tuned into his role. He is a discovery as a host.”
