Archrivals of the ’90s in Bollywood, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit will now come together for the first time on a television show. Fittingly, the two legendary divas, known for their dancing skills, will appear on dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’s (JDJ) finale episode next weekend. They will be seen shaking a leg with the celebrity finalists — Gurmeet Chaudhary, Isha Sharvani, Rashmi Desai and Rithvik Dhanjani.
While the two divas might have been contemporaries and vied for similar roles a few years ago, today they are idols for young dancers. When Madhuri decided to perform one of Sridevi’s iconic numbers, Kaate Nahi Kat Te from Mr India (1987), for the JDJ promos, thus paying tribute to Sri, it did raise a few eyebrows. However, things seem to be hunky dory between the two now.
“Sridevi and Madhuri together are the doyens of dance in Bollywood and it can’t get bigger than them coming together. It will be great to see the actors on stage making the finale even grander. Earlier, Madhuri did dress up like Sridevi and recreate her hit song Kaante Nahi Katte for a promo, so it would be lovely if Sridevi reciprocates by dancing to Madhuri’s iconic Ek Do Teen number,” says an insider.
Marriage and motherhood have kept the two actresses away from the big screen, but now both have big releases this year — Sridevi is ready with her comeback movie English Vinglish and Madhuri too is gearing up to hit the theatres with Gulab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya.
