Even as the grapevine is abuzz with his alleged linkup with Hollywood actor-singer Jennifer Lopez, it’s our very own Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit-Nene, who Ukrainian dancing champ Maksim Chmerkovskiy is smitten with... atleast for now.
“Madhuri is gorgeous. She has an amazing personality and is a wonderful person,” says the 34-year-old on his maiden visit to India. Maksim, who recently won the American dance competition, Dancing with the Stars, is here to co-judge the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa along with Madhuri, Karan Johar and Remo D’Souza.
Although this is his first visit to the sub-continent, the Ballroom dance champ says that he heard so much about this country that he had long back put it on his list of places-must-see-before-you-die.

“I’ve always heard good things about India. Its culture, way of thinking — it’s all really fascinating,” he says, adding, “And while growing up in the erstwhile USSR, say till about eight or nine years of age, I watched a lot of Bollywood movies. They used to be mostly musicals then, non-political and one of the purest form of entertainment. I just loved them... I remember (legendary actor) Raj Kapoor used to be popular and I loved watching his films.”
While in India, Maksim plans to make the most of it. “I plan to go around and see all the beautiful things that I’ve heard about. And your food... I’ve never tried Indian food but I really look forward to it now,” says the dancer who feels at home on the show’s sets. “This format is home to me. You may speak a different language which I don’t understand but I understand your dance,” he smiles.
