When she decided on having a ‘swayamvar’ on national television in June 2009, it created some media uproar. Eventually, she didn’t marry the guy, Elesh Parujanwala, whom she chose on the show. They were engaged and their relationship broke up in a couple of months on another reality show, Pati Patni Aur Woh.
Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, that kicked off on June 29, 2009, on Imagine (then NDTV Imagine) didn’t get a thumbs-up from TV critics, but worked well with the audience. Season Two of the show featured politician Rahul Mahajan, who actually married model-actress Dimpy (Soumashree) Ganguly from Kolkata on March 6 this year.
Shortly after the marriage, buzz was that the channel and the production house helming the show, Fazila Allana’s Sol Productions, which ran the show for two seasons over 10 months, had started looking for contender No 3 for the next season of the marriage-reality show. Apparently, they wanted a cricketer this time. Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and S Sreesanth were reportedly offered to participate in the show, which they went on record to decline.
Will she? Won’t she?
Now, buzz is that the next contender on the marriage show will be Rakhi Sawant once again. It’s learnt that since the channel and the production house couldn’t find any participants for their show, which they plan on starting over soon, they decided to rope in Sawant, who plans to get married on the show.
Reliable sources indicate that the dancer-actress wishes to clean up her image, which was under the scanner after she broke her much-hyped engagement. “The channel will gain because they need a face that can give them TRPs. The production house has handled her before. So, it’s not a task for them. Rakhi can also easily clean-up her image which got spoilt because she didn’t marry on the show and even dumped Elesh,” adds the source. According to Rakhi Sawant’s manager Manoj, her focus currently is on Zara Nachke Dikha on Star Plus. “It’s news to me that she wants to get married and that too by going back to the same show in Season Three,” he adds.
On being asked, Fazila Allana of Sol Productions, says that though the channel and her production house have already produced a Swayamvar show with her, they wouldn’t want to do another. “If Rakhi wants to get married, we’d be more than happy to facilitate it for her. I’m sure Imagine will be equally elated to host it for her because whether she married Elesh Parujanwala or not, we remain her maayka (mother’s house),” adds Allana. Nikhil Madhok of Imagine denies having a third season of the Swayamvar with Rakhi Sawant. He says that the channel is not interested in having a show that feels like a re-run.
“We’re in talks with some cricketers and film stars because they would make the show interesting and help us take it to another level. But it would be incorrect to name the celebrities we have approached. The first season with Rakhi was really interesting and it aroused a lot excitement, but having another season with her may mean a drop in interest,” Madhok states. Since Imagine has lined-up two to three other reality shows, the third season of the Swayamvar show will only kick off towards the end of this year.
