Despite legal troubles, the grand finale of MasterChef India 2 will be aired on January 1 as per schedule with contestants Shazia Khan, Joseph Rosario and Shipra Khanna vying for the title.

On Friday, Star Plus, which is broadcasting the show, obtained a stay on a Gurgaon district court order restraining it from using the trademark Master Chef. On December 24, Vimal Kumar, additional district judge at the Gurgaon district court, had passed an interim order restraining Star India from using, publishing, telecasting and exhibiting the trademark Master Chef. The order was passed in a suit filed by Mumbai-based Wings Entertainemnet, which has claimed that its owns the trademark.

Advocate Pankaj Yadav, who represented Wings Entertainment in the Gurgaon court, argued that Star India shows were using the trademark Master Chef and the Master Chef Series registered with his client. Wings Entertainment in the suit filed pointed out that in October 2010 they had noticed that Star Plus was using the trademark ‘Master Chef India’ which is similar to their registered trademark, ‘Master Chef’, and moved court subsequently.

On Friday, Star India obtained a stay on the Gurgaon court order. “The episode has already been shot and we will air it as per the schedule. The High Court has granted us a stay on the orders issued by the Gurgaon court,” added a source from the channel.

Nitin Vaidya, Business Head, Hindi channels, Star India, in an email, stated, “The matter is subjudice, we can’t comment.” Wings Entertainment, despite repeated attempts, remained unavailable for comment.

Shazia wins MasterChef India 2 title?

Apparently, yes! Our birdie from the culinary show’s sets says that Shazia Khan, the Bangalore-based businesswoman, who was a contestant on the show, will take home the final apron. Shazia is said to have floored the show’s chefs, Ajay, Kunal and Vikas, as well as the special judge for the finale episode, actor Akshay Kumar with her culinary skills. The finale was apparently shot last week and is likely to be aired over the weekend.
