Madhura Naik has replaced Nidhi Seth as the new Kaveri in Sangam on Star Plus. Popularly known as Soniya of Bidaai, Madhura is extremely excited about her role in Sangam.

"It's a positive role and has a lot of emotional scenes. After playing a negative character in Bidaai, it feels good to play a positive role finally. I'm enjoying the experience thoroughly."

But Madhura does not rule out the possibility of her character turning negative in future. "Till now, there are no such plans. But the change in storyline might happen in future."

So will she imbibe some characteristics of the previous Kaveri, or will she introduce some new nuances to the character? "I haven't seen any episodes of the serial before, so I don't know about how the character was being portrayed earlier. I was specifically told not to watch it and was given complete independence to portray the role as per my perception."

Though Madhura is basking in the glory of her new 'positive' role, she feels that a serial should have both positive and negative shades to it as it "balances the storyline".

Personally, the actress likes to play positive characters. "They are important if you want to prove yourself."

"But I think you can make an impact with both kinds of roles," adds the actress.

Madhura does not believe in adding melodrama to a character even if it is negative. "I have never resorted to such things. I keep it subtle."

Madhura Naik has also worked in Balaji Telefilms' serials like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kahe Naa Kahe and BAG films' Kumkum Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan.
