Mukti Bandhan, the 9.30 pm daily soap on Colors that has consistently rated 1.9 on the TRP charts for two weeks now, will soon be placed in a new slot. The channel will open up its 11 pm time band with this show, pushing the Balika Vadhu’s repeat telecast to 11.30 pm. The arrangement has been made to accommodate Parichay, produced by Ekta Kapoor, whose promos featuring actor Sameer Soni, are on air. A date for the show’s telecast and the aforementioned changes haven’t been arrived at yet.

Parichay was to be on air immediately after IPL’s fourth season wrapped up. However, due to certain technical glitches, the show will now go on air sometime next month. The daily soap revolves around a guy called Kunal Chopra (Soni), who is a loser. He’s a Punjabi middle-class guy with a complex personality and will be seen trying to get over his failures. When asked, the channel spokesperson confirms the news, “The move has been well-thought over. We believe if a show is delivering numbers in a given slot, its loyal viewers will follow it to another slot too.”

But wouldn’t the channel be blamed for step-motherly treatment towards Mukti Bandhan, partly based on industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani and partly on the novel and a periodical column of the same name, that’s delivering small but consistent numbers? The spokesperson insists that the show’s producer, Shobhana Desai, has been kept in the loop and has welcomed them: “How can anyone call this a step-motherly move? It’s a matter of pride because there aren’t too many channels that offer fresh programmes in that slot.”
