Rock band Underground Authority, quarter-finalists on the Colors show, India’s Got Talent Khoj 2, will recreate five songs from Salman’s Khan’s Dabangg album, originally created by Sajid-Wajid, with an item number, Munni badnaam hui… specially created by Lalit Pandit. The five-member group was approached nearly three weeks ago after Salman watched their first performance on TV when in Delhi to promote the film.

Impressed by their ‘innovative’ versions of Bollywood chartbusters, Salman asked his brothers, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, to touch base with the group and ask them to rework the numbers, rock style.

MalaikaSince the boy-band weren’t expecting messages and phone calls from the Khans, they didn’t revert initially. Only after Salman dropped in on the sets and offered them the album did they believe that the offer was for real. Instantly, they came up with a rock version of Munni badnaam huyi....

"Bhai (Salman Khan) had told us about the boys after watching the show. A couple of songs are ready, including Munni badnaam huyi… but Sajid and I haven’t had the time to hear them. We’ve been busy with Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar on Zee TV. But from what we’ve heard, the songs are impressive," asserts composer Wajid.

Ask him if Sajid and he are upset because Maliaka Arora-Khan’s item number, Munni badnaam huyi, Malaika Arora Khan, … that’s currently top of the charts, not being credited to them? “The song was recorded by Lalit even before we came on board. Arbaaz loved it and wanted it to be a part of the score. For Sajid and me, Dabangg is like a family album. And right now, we’re both looking forward to the rock version.”
