Neither kids, nor stars on television

In the new show Badmaash Company, Juhi Chawla is always pleasant to watch. And with kids for company, she’s a rock star. UTV Stars show Live My Life's star rating is purely for the show’s novel concept. It’s something that hasn’t been tried before on Indian television.

Show: Badmaash Company
Time: 8 pm, Saturdays
Station: Colors
Cast: Juhi Chawla and a bunch of brats
Rating: **1/2

Juhi Chawla is always pleasant to watch. And with kids for company, she’s a rock star. As the host, she visibly enjoys chatting them up. Most of her guests are just about entering class three. And each one is a brat.

They answer her questions with remarks that could leave any adult speechless. Her co-host Shourya Watwani is just eight years old, but is extremely well-read and knows his GK. He asks legit questions that adults usually are unable to answer.

It’s a cool concept to interview kids, not star kids or star’s kids. But it’s a tricky one for a broadcaster because these kids may not offer the same entertainment value as stars or their kids or even kiddie actors. A lot of young adults may not even tune in becauseit doesn’t have anything that they can relate with.

It’s for those who love kids, regardless of whether they are their own or someone else’s. The show’s highlight is also the fact that there are no celebrity guests at all, which brings relief from the usual chat showsand reality programmes.

What we like
The concept of the chat show reminds one of Anupam Kher’s old show, but has been revamped well.
Host Juhi Chawla and co-host Shourya.

We don’t like
The show’s too skewed down, it fails to interest a big section of viewers.
Time slot doesn’t register, because weekends in urban cities are spent outdoors.

Show: Live My Life
Time: 7 pm, Sundays
Station: UTV Stars
Cast: A big star, his or her biggest fan

The star rating is purely for the show’s novel concept. It’s something that hasn’t been tried before on Indian television. The broadcaster and producer have managed to line up some Bollywood bigwigs and youth icons that allow their ‘biggest’ fan to live their life for a day. But the show completely lacks in execution. To begin with, the hour-long capsules need to be tightened.

It’s difficult to watch it throughout the 60 minutes since there are too few breaks and the presentation is rather boring. At times even bordering on jingoism towards the star. Sometimes, even the star’s line-up of activities has been so ‘thanda’ that as a fan, one wouldn’t like to live that life. Needs a lot of work, for sure!

What we like
The concept
Decent line up of actors and youth icons.

We don’t like
The execution, presentation and sometimes the activities lined up.
