Actor Aankita S Lokhaande has had her share of popularity on the small screen with Pavitra Rishta that also starred her ex, actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Now, the 32-year-old is set to make her Bollywood debut with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The film is being helmed by Krish, who had earlier directed Akshay Kumar starrer Gabbar is Back.

The producer of the film, Kamal Jain, approached Aankita for the film. The actor will play the historical character of Jhalkaribai, an important woman soldier in Rani Laxmibai’s army. “I’d never heard of her before, not many have, but Jhalkaribai was one of the greatest heroes of our proud history. I’m honoured that I’ll be telling her story to the world…,” Ankita was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.

To prep for her role, the actor has been undergoing extensive training in sword fighting for almost two months now. Hollywood action director Nick Powell, who had worked for films such as Braveheart, The Last Samurai and Bourne Identity, is training Aankita.

Talking about her experience with Nick, Aankita told the publication that she didn’t have any clue how to use a sword prior to the training. “Since then, he has taken me by the hand and shown me how to fight. He treats me like a kid and makes the training so entertaining. I’m indebted to Kamal sir for this challenging role in a big-budget film scripted by Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad...,” Aankita added. She is also taking horse riding lessons.

Meanwhile, news was doing the rounds that Aankita is in talks for the Sanjay Dutt film Malang Sanjay. There were also reports about her working in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali production.
