He’s best remembered for his song Gur Nalon Ishq Mitha with Malaika Arora Khan. But did you know that Jas Arora is a household name in Singapore too? The dimpled actor has been a part of Singaporean sitcom Achar! since 2006.
“Achar! is a light-hearted look at the inter-racial marriage between an Indian guy and a Chinese girl. This is a comedy of errors about wedding blues, and problems with in-laws in a multi-cultural context. It is about the clash between the two generations, cultures and personalities. The show is produced by Media Corp studios, and airs every Thursday on Channel 5,” says Arora about the show.
The first Indian actor to have signed a (five-year) contract with a Singaporean show, Arora informs, “The show is a huge hit there. Recently, I was invited to the Singaporean President’s Charity Ball. The President later sent me a hand-signed photograph of the two of us together. It was a warm gesture. Also, the time I performed at the event, it got the highest charity. I have also been named the Face of Singapore Television which is a great achievement.”
And how different is working in Singapore vis-à-vis India? Arora says, “I shuttle between India and Singapore as I need to be there for 3 months in a year. There, things are done more professionally. For example, you can’t take your script on the floor and are expected to be ready with your dialogues before you reach the location. All this has instilled a lot of discipline in me.”
