The promos of the show have been on air for over a week now. Jankhilaavan Jasoos, produced by B P Singh, also the producer of popular long-running shows like CID and Aahat, seems to be take-off on the popular Pink Panther character, last played by Steve Martin in two films, one of which also toplined Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The fact that both the characters look similar and are funny popular detectives hints at that. When asked, Singh argues, “We haven’t made the show as a desi rip-off of the popular comedy detective film series. But if people connect Jankhilaavan with Pink Panther, because they’re both funny detectives and their moustaches looks similar, we can’t help it. He is a one-of-a-kind character who meets different kinds of people in every episode and that takes the show forward. If we had to remake Pink Panther, we’re aware of the legal means to do that.”

According to Anuj Kapoor of Sab TV, the show is a registered homegrown format and will run once-a-week in an hour-long capsule. “We’re not short of ideas here. Jankhilaavan is India’s first funny detective. And he’s original. If you watch the show, you’ll agree that there’s no resemblance with the movie series,” he adds.

Singh says that he had been toying with the idea of making a funny detective series for a very long time. “I’ve made a serious detective show CID which has run for over 12 years. I had been thinking of making a detective show which could tickle the audience’s funny bone. So, we decided to create a character called Jankhilaavan Jasoos,” he adds, informing that the shooting for the show has already commenced, though the channel and he are still altering the format.

“We’re a bit anxious to know how people react to this jasoos (spy). We’ll proceed according to the feedback we receive from our viewers.” Nitesh Pandey plays Jasoos and Vinod Rai is expected to play his assistant Ching Fung Lee.
