Highlight Story

Grab your favourite couch, stock up on the microwave popcorn and get ready to fight for the remote control. Television’s biggest shows — hosted by the country’s biggest celebrities — are set to rock the idiot box this month.

Salman Khan plays big brother to 14 inmates on Bigg Boss, while Amitabh Bachchan returns to host Kaun Banega Crorepati after 4 years.

There’s also Rakhi Sawant delivering her own brand of justice on Rakhi Ka Insaaf, and TV host Ravi Kishan taking people on past life rides in Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka.

Also making a comeback is the iconic fooler, MTV Bakra. The show, which starts in the second week of the month, will see the return of the much-loved host, Cyrus Broacha.

KBC 4It’s the festive spirit that has brought on the slew. "October is when the festive season begins, and that reflects in our programming line-up as well. We had launched Bigg Boss Season 2 in October last year, too, and viewers look forward to the show around this time.

With Salman Khan as the host this year, there is unprecedented excitement, and everyone is waiting for it eagerly", says Ashvini Yardi of Colors. "The festive season is the right time to launch new programs. One wants to capture the family spirit and family time as well. A lot of money is at stake during this time of the year," says Saurabh Tewari of Imagine TV, which will be airing Rakhi Ka Insaaf and Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka, season 2.

Raised interest of advertisers is another factor. "October is a great time for advertisers because of the festivity, so we try to ensure that bigger shows are aired and the monetary benefits are better," says Anupam Vasudev of Star India, which is airing Masterchef India, a cooking reality show to be hosted by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
