After Indian Idol’s five seasons, composer Anu Mallik has moved on from scouting raw singing talent in the country. He’s now going to judge a music programme featuring an assortment of TV and film artistes who will compete with each other on a reality show called Star Ya Rockstar that starts shortly on Zee TV.

Buzz has it that Mallik will soon start vocal training for the celebrities on the show, so that they can perform to the best of their capabilities once the shoot for the show commences.

A couple of years ago, Imagine, then NDTV Imagine had a similar show Dhoom Macha De that featured a host of TV actors who were judged by Simi Garewal and Karan Johar. The show had been introduced as a part of the star-studded weekenders that the channel had planned to garner eyeballs back late 2000s. Sumit Raghavan, best known as Sahil from the sitcom Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai, had won the competition, hands down.

This show, Star Ya Rockstar, will replace Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs in the Friday-Saturday late primetime spot. As for participants, there’s a lot of speculation as to who the celebrity contestants would be.

Producers of the show have reportedly approached the most-talked about on-screen lovers currently, Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor, to compete against each other.

Sources close to the channel as well as production house, Wizcraft, also reveal that actors like Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Varun Badola, Rajshri Thakur, Vikas Bhalla, Chhavi Mittal and funny man Manish Paul have also been roped in for the show.

Spokespersons from Zee TV and the production house were unavailable for comment till the time of going to press.
