Highlight Story

She doesn’t like the word ‘old’. And yet Krutika Desai is a member of the Saas Sena in Saas vs Bahu. The reality show pits on-screen saas-bahu pairs against one another. She is confident she can outrun any of “these young girls.” Krutika feels it isn’t about age but about confidence and performance skills.

This is Krutika’s first brush with dance and a reality show. “I had to fight my own demons before I said yes,” she smiles.

So how’s she doing with all the dance steps? Do the rehearsals have her panting for breath? “No way. I’m quite athletic,” retorts Krutika.

She is paired with Chavi Mittal who played her bahu in Tumhari Disha.

In the beginning
Krutika has been on television for over two decades now. She started out with Air Hostess co-starring Kitu Gidwani who is also in Saas vs Bahu. The actress then tried her hand at fantasy (Chandrakanta), a catty soap (Lipstick). She then hosted Superhit Muqabla, one of Indian television’s first countdown shows. Krutika claims she has consciously stayed away from mythological serials because “they’re never presented correctly.”

Same old
She’s upset that her show Annu ki Ho Gayee Waah Bhai Waah is on its way out. There she played a stepmother, a character that never really got its due. Krutika is currently hating saas-bahu shows because she feels there’s more to entertainment than a woman’s personality within her house. One of her previous shows, Yeh Meri Life Hai, had started on a fresh note. “But then it went down the saas-bahu road,” she complains.

Krutika is also associated with Akanksha, an NGO for which she conducts theatre workshops for street children.
