Kate Winslet is returning to her roots — she’s set to appear in a small screen version of James M. Cain’s novel, Mildred Pierce.
The Titanic star began her acting career with British TV in the 1990s before breaking into Hollywood. Now she’s returning to the small screen in a mini-series based on Mildred Pierce, playing a proud single mother in Depression-era Los Angeles.
The Sopranos’ Ilene Landress will produce the series for US network HBO, while Todd Haynes and Jon Raymond are helming the script.
Joan Crawford starred in the 1945 film adaptation of the book, and won an Academy Award for Best Actress. Filming on the series starts in New York in April this year.
