It may be tough to imagine the hit reality TV series Roadies without Raghu-Rajiv, but taking a break from the tube was one of the easiest decisions the latter ever took. “I’ve been doing this for 17 years,” says Rajiv Lakshman, who is enjoying his time as a stay-at-home husband and father. And to make the most of his free time, the television producer and host is looking to expand his professional avenues with screenwriting.

“I always had a penchant for writing films, but never had the time to devote to it because of my television commitments. Since I have that luxury now, I am writing an action film,” he says, adding that brother Raghu and MTV Roadies’ co-host Rannvijay will obviously star in it. “I’m actually working on more than one subject. The current one is an action film. I won’t say it’s different, but it’s fun. It has a lot of masala.”

Calling writing the toughest part of the filmmaking process, Rajiv will make an official announcement about the film and its producers by July-August. “And I will be directing it,” he says, admitting, “I’m actually not a writer, I’m a director.” Raghu and Rajiv last made an appearance together in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan (2010).

As for his return to TV, Rajiv insists no assignment can lure him for at least a year. He says,“There is nothing new for me to do,” says the producer. “Till you don’t run out of options, you will not strive towards something you really want to do. Getting offers from TV is natural, but first this film has to get made. For me to do a TV project, mountains will have to move, God will have to appear and bribe me. Then I’ll consider them.”
