Ratan Ka Rishta
, the third
on Imagine, will have a new anchor, the soon-to-be-married Sameer Soni. The show was initially hosted by actor Ram Kapoor for two seasons. Understandably, since Kapoor is away shooting for
, the channel and SOL Productions, the production house helming the show, decided to sign on Soni instead.
When asked, initially Soni was hesitant to talk, but he said, “Yes, they have approached me for it and I’m considering the show. Probably, you should wait for the channel to make an announcement.”
But when prodded further, the actor admitted that he will be anchoring the show featuring actor Ratan Rajput, who is currently playing Laali in Zee TV’s prime time daily
Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo
. The channel is currently busy sorting out the entries they’ve received for suitable grooms ever since the promos went on air.
When asked what prompted him to return to television in such a big way, Soni says that he’s not returning with multiple projects, but is selectively doing one show which allows him creative satisfaction.
“The only problem with the medium is that it needs you to act too quickly. You don’t get the time to rework or perfect anything. With the show I’ve picked up, I know I’ll gain a lot of satisfaction as an artiste because I’ll have time to give it my best shot,” asserts the actor-host.
Soni is expected to tie the knot with long-time sweetheart, actor-designer Neelam Kothari on January 23. When asked what his wedding plans were, he says that he would have preferred a Goan wedding.
“We would have played reggae music, danced and made merry. It would have been a super chilled out and casual wedding, which I’m sure would have been easier to handle,” says Soni with a wink, before adding, “But I love Neelam too much and I have to go by what she likes. She wants a full-on desi wedding and that’s what we’ll have.”
Are his bride-to-be’s friends planning anything big for the functions?
“Oh, Neelam spends a lot of time with them. I don’t know what the girls are planning. But I’m sure they’re having fun,” says the groom to be, adding that the honeymoon will have to wait, since his and Neelam’s work schedules will have to match.
“I am directing a film which will soon go on floors. Neelam has an exhibition coming up,” says Soni. “We can’t let work suffer. So, once we’re a little settled with it, we’ll definitely have our honeymoon too.”
