The television bug has finally bitten singers Shibani Kashyap and Chin2 Bhosle. The duo has turned hosts for the daily show, Desi Beats. The trivia-based format about Bollywood music from the ’90s till date, will remind tube loyalists about old school shows where the hosts discussed the music and then played the songs. Except, this daily promises to bring with it loads of information.
“We have a research team that has worked very hard to put together unheard and lesser known facts about Bollywood music since the ’90s. I also spoke to a lot of people I know personally in the industry to add to that information,” says an excited Shibani, who feels preparing for the show has been a great learning experience for her.
As part of the show, the hosts will start by picking one song. If the track, for instance is Dil se from the Mani Ratnam film, information about the movie’s music will be told in a conversational style by the hosts. Apparently, maestro AR Rahman had approached Lata Mangeshkar for the first time to sing Jia jale for the Shah Rukh Khan-Manisha Koirala-starrer at that time. Since Rahman was comparatively new to the industry then, he was nervous about whether she would agree to work with him. But she did.
Adds Shibani, “It’ll be done in a way so that it doesn’t get boring. Sometimes both Chin2 and I will break into a song ourselves, before playing its video.”
Playing it extra safe, the channel Masti will only include information that over the years has been confirmed by all the stars and personalities involved. “I have been shooting seven episodes everyday, and we shoot for a week every month. So, it’s going to be a year-long affair,” she says.
