Show: Emotional Atyaachar 2

Time: 7 pm, Saturday

Cast: Pravesh Rana and spies

Station: UTV Bindass

Rating: ***1/2

The show travels to various parts of the country, keeping its focus largely on Delhi (so far at least). The second season is interesting, thanks to the involvement of family and friends.

The show, like its first season, conducts sting operations at the behest of a suspecting partner. Pravesh Rana replaces Angad Bedi and Vivan Bhatena and does a good job as a host. He’s calm and composed.

The selection of episodes so far has been great. The opening episode showed a suspecting partner turn a suspect towards the climax. The ones that followed have been equally engaging.

But sometimes, a chain of cheating partner cases makes the show look staged. There’s nothing new if the family or friend is eliminated.

What we like

Involving family, friends

What we don’t like

Too high on voyeurism

VIshala nd shekharShow: Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar

Time: 9 30 pm, Friday-Saturday

Station: Zee TV

Cast: Vishal-Shekhar, Daler Mehndi, Sajid-Wajid

Watch this one for Daler Mehndi’s histrionics. His smart one-liners and, sometimes funny acts, can keep the audience hooked to the show. But we’re not demeaning the quality of the talent. Judge duo Vishal-Shekhar and Sajid-Wajid too are cool.

The audition episodes were well edited, because they got you hooked to the show. A couple of singers in the top 18, like the polyglot Mugdha, are a must-watch.

The grouse is that singers who have appeared in other shows, like Abhilasha Chellam (already seen on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in Marathi), could have been excluded to give a fresh singer a chance.

Even the selection of contestants seems driven by demographics and striking life stories. Hope that’s not the case.

What we like
Daler Mehndi and most of the finalists in the top 18

What we don’t like
Presence of singers from previous reality shows
