In the west, converting films into TV shows is common practice; the most recent example being that of Fargo. Now, director Anand L Rai is all set to bring Raanjhanaa (2013), which had set cash registers ringing at the box-office, to the small screen.

In the west, converting films into TV shows is common practice; the most recent example being that of Fargo, starring Billy Bob Thorton, which is inspired by the film of the same name that released in 1996. In India, the idea has not really caught the fancy of film-makers. But director Anand L Rai is now attempting the same with his film, Raanjhanaa (2013), which had set cash registers ringing at the box-office when it released.

When contacted, Rai confirmed the news, saying, "My team is excited about this project. We have been working on it for more than a year. The story of my film is such that it leads to further adaptations. There were many more stories that I wanted to tell, but it was not possible to put all of that in a single film."

starred Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in the lead and revolved around the story of a boy in Benares, who falls hopelessly in love with a girl from the same city. While Rai will be part of the show in capacity of a producer and a creative head, the cast and the director for the same are yet to be decided. "I’m still in talks with various channels, but it will be locked soon," informs the film-maker, when asked about the channel that the show will be aired on.

Rai, who likes taking his time when he is working on a film, is elated with the fact that production doesn’t take up too much of his time. "Film-making is a long process. I take over two years to make a film. But with production, I like the fact that I can assign people to take care of things," he says.
