Nineteen-year-old Swaroop Khan, an Indian Idol 5 contestant who is a folk singer from Rajasthan, has already got a break in Bollywood. He's got an opportunity to lend his voice to a track by ace composer Bappi Lahiri.
The teenager from Jodhpur stole Bappi Lahiri's heart with his rustic voice and the music director signed him on for a song in the forthcoming movie Emotional Atyachar. The recording took place at Bappi Lahiri's studio July 24.
"Swaroop truly represents the soulful Rajasthani folk music in all its glory. After watching his performance week after week, I was so impressed with his quality and versatility in singing that I was more than happy to give him a break. I am confident people will enjoy listening to his voice," said Lahiri.
And the budding singer is elated.
"I am ecstatic about getting a chance to work with Bappi-da. It's a joyous moment for me. I am grateful to the jury and Sony Entertainment Television for giving me this wonderful platform to showcase my talent that enabled this big break," Swaroop said.
Indian Idol is a singing reality show on Sony TV and its fifth season is currently on air.
