Disney announced animated series Tangled on Wednesday, based on the 2010 film of same name. The original cast of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will reprise their roles in the series which will run on the Disney Channel.
The hit movie was based on the fairy tale of Rapunzel, the princess with beautiful, golden and ridiculously long magical hair who was kidnapped by a witch. She meets a thief, Flynn Rider who takes her out of her isolated tower in the woods and into the real world.
The last we saw of Rapunzel and Flynn was in Tangled Ever After where the two got married. However, the animated series will trace her jouney after meeting her parents and adapting to the royal way of life before getting married. Rapunzel will have many adventures on her way with Flynn, her pet chameleon Pascal and horse Maximus.
According to the press release: “Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realisation that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the king who, after missing out on Rapunzel’s youth, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman.”
Rapunzel will also have a handmaiden Cassandra, a strong-willed girl who also serves as her confidant.
Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, will serve as songwriters on the series also.
However, it is going to be a long wait as the series will hit the TV screens sometime in 2017. So keep calm and brush your hair until then.
