Ganesh Chaturthi is one festival that is eagerly awaited by most Maharashtrians, every year. It is that time of the year when Mumbaikars as well as people from other cities within the state, play gracious hosts to Ganpati and bid him a memorable farewell. Lord Ganesha, has been essayed by actors both in films as well as television. Mythological shows have been showcased on television since several years.

Jagesh Mukati- Shree Ganesha
This series started in November 2000 and was aired on Sony TV. Starring Jagesh Mukati, who played Lord Ganesha, the show gained immense popularity. It also featured the likes of Sunil Sharma (Lord Shiva) and Gayatri Jayaraman (Parvati).
Aakash Nair- Ganesh Leela
Depicting Lord Ganesha’s journey through different stages, the television show Ganesh Leela started in the year 2011 and featured child artist Aakash Nair as the protagonist. The serial also starred Barkha Bisht, as well as Samragyi Nema (Parvati) and Mukesh Solanki (Shiva).
Alpesh Dhakan- Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev
Though this television show was primarily based on the stories of Lord Shiva, Alpesh Dhakan played an important part in the series as Shiva’s (played by Mohit Raina) son, Ganesha. This show began in 2011 and had a successful run till 2014.

Like in Hindi television, depiction of Lord Ganesha is prominent in Marathi shows as well. Master Shaney Bhise’s portrayal of the lord in Marathi show Jai Malhar, makes for an interesting watch. Like the Hindi show Mahadev, this series is based on the life of Lord Shiva as well. Jai Malhar stars Devdatte Nage( Shiva) and Gauri Sukhtankar (Parvati) in titular roles.
Swaraj Yevle - Ganpati Bappa Moorya
This Marathi show starring Swaraj Yevle as Lord Ganesha is magnanimous and visually appealing.
