Delhi’s Tihar jail

We’ve heard of yoga camps and cottage industries being run inside there, but now inmates from Delhi’s Tihar jail are getting a chance few people get — to be part of a reality show.

The team of India’s Got Talent went to audition the prisoners while hunting for talent in the city. There, they learnt about a group who are part of a musical band and call themselves ‘The Flying Souls’. The band makes compositions using a mix of instruments like guitars, drums, harmonium, tabla and keyboards. Interestingly, their musical creations narrate their own stories and struggles.

The host of the show, VJ-turned-actor Cyrus Sahukar, was thrilled about finding this talent. He says, “Interacting with the inmates was an intriguing experience and the amount of talent there comes as a pleasant surprise. The show, this season, has travelled the length and breadth of the country and it is heart-warming to find talent in a place like a prison.”

As the inmates are still serving their sentences, they will not go beyond the audition round, but were thrilled that people will be able to see their talent on national TV. The episode airs this weekend.
