In the Star Plus show Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hain, actor Niaa Sharma’s character Maanvi has been fighting cancer. She is being supported through this painful ordeal by her friend Virat, played by actor Kushal Tandon. Next week, Maanvi’s hair will start falling due to chemotherapy. And to help her cope with her loss, her companion Virat too is expected to shave his head.

However, even though that’s what the channel wants, the actor has strict reservations about going bald.

“When the channel and the producer (Sidharth Malhotra) spoke to me, my reaction was, Are you crazy? I didn’t even blink before saying no. I love
my hair and won’t be shaving it off for a show. It was shocking to hear the idea and have the channel try to convince me,” he says.

Though Kushal is sure of his decision, he also adds, “We will soon have another meeting as there is room for discussion.”

On the episode to be aired on Monday, Niaa will wear a prosthetic scalp for a shot that shows her bald head and in later episodes, she will be seen sporting a bandana.

The show’s current promos focus on Virat’s emotions for Maanvi. Both of them have realised that they love each other, but have not yet professed it.

Kushal says, “This track (with shaven head) will be a benchmark, as we are depicting the extent to which a person can go for love. It will be a crucial point. I realise no one has gone bald on TV before, but I don’t know if I can do it.”

The actor feels that you never know what you may be asked to do tomorrow, since storylines in TV soaps change daily.
