Acting seems to be a second love for these actors as most of them seem to be primarily living off reality shows.
Sumanth and Shonali
Often termed as ‘pocket-size dynamites’, 14-year-old Maraju Sumanth and eight-year-old Shonali Majumdar created waves when they won the talent hunt show India’s Got Talent, in 2012. Last year, the two were back on TV with the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhlaja, wherein they reached the finals.
Sweta aka Prerna of the hit show Kasauti Zindagi Kay, won the fourth season of Bigg Boss (2011). She hosted Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2009), judged the dance show Aajaa Mahi Vay (2008) and participated in Nach Baliye (2006), amongst others.
Ripu Daman Handa
He stirred the nation’s imagination by dishing out lipsmacking delicacies when he went on to win the third season of MasterChef India, last year. And just when everyone thought that he’ll probably host a food show or open a restaurant, he surprised all with his moves in Nach Baliye 6, where he participated with girlfriend, Shivangi Verma.
Apurva and Shilpa
In spite of his big debut in the Subhash Ghai film, Pardes (1997), Apurva couldn’t make a big name in Bollywood, but TV surely turned out to be his lucky stage. His show, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2003), was a big hit and he also played the lead in Aasman Se Aage (2012). His spouse, Shilpa, was last seen doing a cameo in his show, Jassi…, seven years back. The couple was seen together in three reality shows — Nach Baliye (2005), Pati Patni Aur Woh (2009), and Bigg Boss, recently. Meanwhile, Shilpa has also participated in Survivor India (2012) and Welcome — Baazi Mehmaan Nawaazi Ki, last year.
Her stint might have been controversial but Gauahar Khan did finally manage to emerge as the winner of Bigg Boss 7. However, this wasn’t her first reality show. While she has been seen in a few Bollywood films including Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009) and Ishaqzaade (2012), she was also a part of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 (2009). In 2011, Gauahar had a complete reality show — The Khan Sisters — revolving around her and her sister Nigaar’s life, on the lines of the American reality TV show, Keeping up with the Kardashians.
He might be playing the lead in the hit show Pavitra Rishta, but is a more popular face on reality shows — either as a participant or as a host. He participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 (2012) and is currently battling it out at Nach Baliye 6 (ongoing). Last year, he was seen hosting four shows —India’s Best Dramebaaz, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, DID Dance Ka Tashan and Yeh Hai Aashiqui.
This model-turned-VJ rose to fame with her eventful stint at the fifth season of Bigg Boss (2011). In fact, Misrra started her TV stint with her agony aunt talk show, Jab We Talk, and later bagged other reality TV shows including Big Switch and Welcome — Baazi Mehmaan-Nawaazi ki.
He rose to fame with his stint on Bigg Boss 2 (2008), and found love and wife in the second season of Swayamvar — Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega. He was a guest judge on Comedy Circus (2011), participated on Nach Baliye 5 (2012) with his wife Dimpy and last year, was seen in Welcome — Baazi Mehmaan Nawaazi Ki and Nach Baliye Shriman vs Shrimati.
While motor-mouth Rakhi has been spotted (read missed) in blink-and-miss roles and item numbers in a host of Bollywood films, it’s her stints on reality TV shows that are most talked about. Right from the debut season of Bigg Boss (2001) to Nach Baliye 3 (2007) with then boyfriend Abhishek Avasthi, Rakhi Ka Swayamwar (2008) to Yeh Hai Jalwa (2008), ... her reality TV stints are endless. She has also hosted shows including The Rakhi Sawant Showz (2008), amongst others.
