Though he is a successful Bollywood film-maker, Karan Johar’s association with the small screen has also been rewarding. While he is best known for his 11-year-old celebrity chat show, Karan has also been judging a dance show and a talent hunt since 2012. The film-maker strongly believes that ultimately, all big Bollywood stars would have no option, but to venture into the small screen.

“Even though the charm of celluloid is unquestionable, TV is an exceptionally strong entertainment platform. It’s reach and connect is huge. Mainstream actors already form a large part of the medium, and soon, popular movie stars will have to be seen on television in order to boost their stardom,” says Karan.

While actors like Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonu Sood are the latest to join the bandwagon, the film-maker says he is glad he has been associated with the medium for a long time.

“Television is a bigger force to reckon with. I’m extremely happy to be a judge on two of the most successful TV properties in India. Both the shows I have been judging have scaled tremendous heights, and I feel proud to be part of them,” says Karan.
