“I’ve been hosting and doing TV shows. Just because I am not seen on the Page 3 circuit anymore, or my dog biting someone on the road doesn’t make news doesn’t mean I’m not around. I would rather be known for my work,” quips Verma, who in the past hosted Indian Idol and Zee Cinestars.

He will also be seen in Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan as a character that is chasing Akshay Kumar through his escapades in the film. And without any qualms he accepts that every TV actor wants to make it big in film. "The ones who deny feeling that way are liars. My role in Tees Maar Khan is part of a comic sequence, but it’s the role in Laado that’s been challenging. I play a Haryanavi character. I had to change my look for the performance," says Verma, not hesitating to add that his "polished hosting skills" came in the way. "People know me as a well polished host with a good control over my Hindi and English skills, I had to become crude in this."

The actor, who has been in the industry for over 13 years, has been involved in many rumours. But he feels he has surfaced and survived, unlike many of his contemporaries.

“I belong to the time TV actors were superstars, but around the end of 2006 things changed... money came down. You get paid 30 per cent of what you used to. Not everyone has been able to adjust to that, I have learnt.”

When asked about his alleged issues with Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms he sounds . “In my entire time in TV, I have only met Ekta twice or thrice, that too when she was auditioning me for the Balaji shows.”
