Upen Patel and Karishma Tanna met last year, as contestants on a reality show, and started dating. Now, with the actor proposing to his girlfriend on another reality show, their relationship seems to have come full circle.

But Upen isn’t the first one to take this seemingly cliche route. A number of small-screen stars have previously used reality shows as a platform to declare their love for their better halves.

Rithvik Dhanjani-Asha Negi

The former Pavitra Rishta co-stars initially insisted that they were just good friends, but in October 2013, they came clean about their relationship, and confessed to their love for each other. Two months later, when they participated in a dance reality show, Rithvik proposed to Asha on national television. Although they are still in a steady relationship, the couple says there are no plans to get married anytime soon.

Ravi Dubey-Sargun Mehta

Ravi wanted to do something special for Sargun, his girlfriend of three years. So, in February 2013, on the dance reality show that they were both part of, the TV actor went down on one knee and proposed to her with a solitaire ring, in the presence of both their parents. Happy and shocked because she was caught completely unaware, Sargun said yes. The couple tied the knot on December 7.

Sushant Singh Rajput-Ankita Lokhande

After being together since 2009, Sushant went down on one knee and proposed to Ankita — who he met when they co-starred in the show Pavitra Rishta — on a dance reality show in 2011. Since then, the couple lives together, but hasn’t picked a date for marriage yet. However, recently, Sushant told us that the wedding date may be around the corner.

Ali Merchant-Sara Khan

They not only proposed to each other, but also got married on a reality show. The long-time couple had a wedding ceremony in November 2010, on the fourth season of a Salman Khan-hosted reality show. Other participants from the show also took part in the ceremony, along with the family members of the bride and the groom. However, the marriage didn’t last long, as the couple apparently got divorced soon after.
