Controversy queen from across the border, Veena Mallik, is officially the first Pakistani, non-Hindu bride who’ll have a swayamvar in India. After actor Ratan Rajput’s swayamvar show earlier this year, Veena’s given the nod to choose her prospective groom on the show’s fourth season, likely to go on air next year, on either side of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament’s fifth edition.
For now, the first set of teasers, promos and call for entries have all been shot at Agra’s Taj Mahal on Tuesday with Veena, who has been linked to Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Asif, and then actor Ashmit Patel, her co-housemate in Bigg Boss Season Four last year.
The actor-model, also associated with a couple of social causes in her home country, faced plenty of flak for her ‘chemistry’ and physical proximity to Ashmit on the 24-hour prime time reality show last year. The duo always denied their relationship and maintained the ‘good friends’ tag. Now, it’s said Ashmit may appear on the show as her buddy and help her choose Mr Right.
The production house for the show is likely to remain the same as the last three seasons, SOL Productions. The show will proceed in stages, starting with a call for entries, sifting through them, selections and then the shoot at a palace in some part of India that’s still not finalised. Of the previous seasons, only one relationship has managed to make it to its final stage, the wedding.
Rahul Mahajan on Season Two had married a several-years-younger model, Dimpy Ganguly, from Kolkata. The marriage faced some early turbulence, before settling in completely.
Season One’s bride, Rakhi Sawant chose Canadian Elesh Parujanwala as her man, but in a couple of months, their engagement was called off. After the third Swayamvar wrapped up in July-August this year, there’s no news on Ratan and her chosen one.
Spokespersons from Imagine, the show’s broadcaster, refrained from commenting on the new season. The new bride-to-be was also inaccessible for comment.
