Popular primetime historical drama Veer Shivaji will soon see a leap with actor Dr Amol Kolhe playing the role of the grown-up Shivaji. Kolhe had earlier played the same role in Star Pravah’s Chatrapati Veer Shivaji.

He says, “Veer Shivaji Maharaj cannot be understood in books. One has to live by what he preached. I want to ensure that I live up to the image of the man. I am not even a fraction of what he was, yet I have been lucky to get to play him on screen twice. It is not just a role for me, but a life that I will lead.” The shoot will begin in 10 days, and telecast will start early March.

Incidentally, Kolhe hails from Narayangaon, a village situated at the base of Shivneri, the birthplace of Shivaji. Stepping into the shoes of teenage actor Paras Arora, who essayed the role of a young Shivaji, he feels, “Though I am portraying the same role again, this show would be a completely different platform with new audiences. I am happy to portray someone who is an inspiration to many.”

Produced by Contiloe Telefilms, Veer Shivaji was initially planned in a weekend slot, but as the show rose on the popularity meter, the channel shifted it to the primetime slot on weekdays, within a month of its launch, and it continues to deliver good TRPs.
