Besides talent, many actors are often discussed for their good looks, and television personality Aashka Goradia is one of them. The 30-year-old, who was last seen in the TV serial Maharana Pratap as Dheer Bai Bhatiyani, says that she would be open to playing the role of an older woman on screen, depending on “the stage she is at in her career”.
“If I have commitments that would not complement the decision of me playing such (older) roles, then I wouldn’t,” she adds.
A few Indian TV shows have received criticism for displaying regressive content, particularly where women are portrayed as oppressed.
At a time when everyone is talking about women empowerment, ask Aashka how she would justify such content, and she says, “This [women empowerment] is a completely different topic altogether,” adding, “The ratio of men to women is still eight is to 10 in our country. If you are going to mix regressive content and entertainment, then you aren’t really addressing the issue. The issue should be addressed in schools and textbooks, and it should be a part of our education. We actors provide entertainment. We should segregate regressive content from entertainment. They are two separate subjects (sic).”
