Why Aman Varma refused Mallika Sherawat's show

"There were talks. I was offered the chance, but I was clear from the start that I would not do it. There was no reason for me to be a participant. So, they (the channel) revised the offer and asked me to appear in the capacity of a friend," the actor says.

As Mallika Sherawat’s show, The Bachelorette India — Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, readies to go on air, the makers are busy roping in popular faces for the show.

While Rohit Roy will host it, Rahul Mahajan and Sunny Deol will be seen as Mallika’s friends. The channel even approached Aman Varma for the show. He tells us why he declined the offer.

We‘ve heard you were asked to be part of Mallika’s show.
There were talks. I was offered the chance, but I was clear from the start that I would not do it. There was no reason for me to be a participant. So, they (the channel) revised the offer and asked me to appear in the capacity of a friend to help her choose from the various guys vying for her. I agreed as it was a fair portrayal. But they wanted me for a longer duration.

So we won’t see you as a friend on her show?
No. I’m currently doing Shapath for the same channel and it’s their top show right now. I needed to be part of something that was successful, as it’s been some time (since I had a hit show). I’m thrilled that my show is doing so well. A while ago, it was on the verge of shutting down. So leaving this show was out of the question.

What do you think of Mallika and her show? Would you do something like this ever?
I admire her. Starting from a small town in Haryana as a divorcee and becoming a global sex symbol is commendable. Which actor from India has had dinner with Obama (Barack; the US President)? That is an achievement in itself. As for whether I would do a show like this? Not today. But a few months down the line, who knows?
