Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma is in the news yet again, and this time because of singer Mika Singh.
Mika, who is a part of Colors’ show Comedy Nights Live, recently shot for an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show with West Indies star cricketer Chris Gayle and singer Kanika Kapoor on rival channel GEC Sony. With the competition between the two shows at its highest point yet, this may well mean Comedy Nights Live showing the door to Mika.
Colors, in retaliation, sent Sony a notice objecting to featuring Mika on their television programme, and reportedly telling them to not air the episode.
Mika explained that he went on Kapil’s show to promote his new songs. “You all know that I am Kapil’s brother. I am a big fan of his show and his (comic) timing. I met him after a long time because three-four songs of mine have been launched. And the best way to promote the songs is through the best show – The Kapil Sharma Show.”
When asked why he had decided to appear in a rival show, Mika said, “Shows keep going on… but my bond with Kapil has been there for the past 10 years. He loves Daler-paaji (Mehndi) and I love him... It is good that both the shows are working. Paaji’s show is going number one, and I’ve come on his show. What could be bigger than that?”

Kapil had a fallout with Colors, after which he stormed out of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’. The channel had then rechristened the show ‘Comedy Nights Live’, and placed comedian-actor Krushna Abhishek at the helm. Mika was brought in to replace cricketer-turned-TV celebrity Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Krushna believes Colors has every right to be resentful. “Mika should not have gone on their show. It was a breach of contract. If he is such good friends with Kapil, then don’t be a guest… replace Mika with Sidhuji for few episodes as judge, and then you can prove your friendship. But you won’t do it? We have Mika on our show because we are good friends with him,” he said.

Krushna, however, added that he hadn’t spoken to Mika yet because “he is out of reach”.
A source close to Mika and Krushna said there would be some clarity on the matter only after everybody meets to shoot for the show in three to four days. “There was definitely a breach of contract, but probably Mika didn’t realise what he was doing. It remains to be seen if the channel takes action, and one sees an empty chair on the show.”
Representatives of Colors and Sony were unavailable for comment.
Apparently, Zee TV was also irked by Mika’s action because he is one of the judges in their reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – which airs at the same time as The Kapil Sharma Show on weekends.
Dispelling rumours that Comedy Nights Live might wrap up soon, Krushna said, “Preeti Simoes and the others in Kapil’s show keep spreading rumours that we will shut shop soon. But the fact is, we get better ratings than them. We are not going anywhere. Both Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Nights Live are doing very well.”
