With an upside-down American flag, like the one you see on the show House of Cards, Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin began a short, biting blog post in response to the election of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States of America.
We present it, in its entirety, here:
There are really no words for how I feel this morning.
America has spoken. I really thought we were better than this. Guess not.
Trump was the least qualified candidate ever nominated by a major party for the presidency. Come January, he will become the worst president in American history, and a dangerously unstable player on the world stage.
And the decimated Democrats, a minority in both House and Senate, do not have the power to hinder him.
Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse.
Winter is coming. I told you so.
While numerous celebrities, most of whom were open in their vociferous support of Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton, have been protesting online and on the streets against this unexpected turn of events, George RR Martin, a man familiar with the twisted nature of politics from his books, took to his blog. He titled the post ‘President P***ygrabber’.
Game of Thrones is a bleak place, or at least it has been until now. But with a new book and a new season due out in 2017, it looks like most will be dealing with the uncertainly of the real world by hibernating in its fantastical, wintery one.
