Indian television is always said to have been a woman’s domain. With saas-bahu sagas and other women-dominated shows ruling the small screen for a while now, female characters have always been prominent on TV. While many may not like this, actor Anas Rashid says that this can’t be changed.
“There are roles for men too, but they are also based around the women in the story. Like, if there is a male character, then his role will be centered around his wife or mother. That’s because our everyday life has women, so how can you not have them in your shows? You cannot ignore women on television because the shows are expected to reflect reality,” he says.
“So even if a story has both male and female actors, the stronger ones will always be women,” he adds.
Anas, who plays the role of Suraj in an ongoing show, has been acting in the show for the past four years. “There are a lot of actors who get bored with the same character. But I’m not. I feel that very often, actors start interfering with the look decided for them or their track. They try to make changes, which never work. I feel that it is very important for actors to trust the writers and the production houses of their shows,” he says.
“The field work put in by the writers will be much more than the feedback that we as actors can provide. I think it is very important to be happy with your role. I was always happy with my character and I think that’s why the makers felt free to experiment with the role,” he adds.
