Wondering how many hours you'll need to play Wii Fit Bowling after feasting on turkey and stuffing? Answer: 4.9.
On Tuesday, Popular Science magazine approached the eternal question: how many calories are in my epic holiday feast, and subsequently how can I burn them off? According to their estimates, modest serving sizes of roast turkey (149 calories), roast potatoes (127 calories), stuffing (231 calories), cranberry sauce (45 calories), pork sausage (62 calories), bacon (135 calories), roast parsnips (102 calories), bread sauce (42 calories), Brussel sprouts (32 calories), gravy (17 calories), and boiled carrots (14 calories) equates to a hefty load of 956 calories, at least as sourced by the British Nutrition Foundation. And that's not counting dessert.
To burn off the banquet, you'll need to play 3.2 hours of Wii Fit Tennis, 2.7 hours of Wii Fit Boxing, 3.8 hours of Xbox 360 Your Shape, four hours of Xbox 360 Sports, or 4.5 hours of Xbox 360 Kinect Adventures.
If you've spent 5.9 hours in the kitchen cooking up the meal, you've already burned off the calories, or you can tackle that pile of ironing: 10.5 hours should do the trick.
If you prefer acquiring a calorie burn in more traditional ways, here are a few stats, according to Bootsdiets.com:
Jogging: 455 calories an hour
Swimming (freestyle, vigorous): 650 calories an hour
Body Attack class: 650 calories an hour
Judo: 650 calories an hour
Aqua Aerobics (moderate intensity): 260 calories an hour
Pilates: 247 calories an hour
Zumba: 345 calories an hour
What about sex? If you're lucky to enough to sustain vigorous passion for a full hour, you'll burn 99 calories. Like being on the bottom? You'll only burn 66 calories an hour, according to WebMD.
Note: All figures are based on a person weighing 65 kilos.
