Doctor on call

If you hesitate to question the doctor’s judgment, you’re not alone. Almost one in three adults doesn’t challenge the doctor, found the International Bupa Health Pulse survey of 14,500 adults across 13 countries, including India.

Often, accessing test results or simply getting through to a doctor in an emergency is impossible.

However, the trend is gradually changing, thanks to the internet. And informed patients are expecting hospitals to emphasise on patient satisfaction.

There are some good examples to learn from. “We provide lab results 5 times in a day; if a sample has been collected at 7am, the result will be uploaded on our website by 10am. CTs/MRIs are seen online within minutes of the scan,” said Dr SK Sarin, director, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS).

“The patient is involved in decision making,” he added.
